Aitor Hernández Sanzano graduated from The Conservatorium Real of Professional Dance, Madrid (Real ConservatorioProfesional De Danza de Madrid), specialising in choreography and interpretation and gained several international dance companies and ultimately as a dancer in the National Ballet of Spain.
As a company dancer, he toured the world performing across Asia, Europe for over four years. The workload was relentless. Aitor had also accepted many solos and choreographic roles outside the company. Wanting a change of pace, Aitor decided he needed the freedom to create thus, making a decision to leave the company and venture out of Spain.
Aitor arrived in Australia. It was his dream to go to Australia. After a few months, Aitor decided that he would try to start dancing again and put out some positive energy towards making this happen. Marina Tamayo contacted Aitor and the rest is history. Immediately after the first phone call, there was a connection and Aitor began teaching and performing with Marina. Soon after, they formed their own Dance Company in Australia, Hernandez Tamayo Spanish Dance Theatre.
Since the company’s inception, they have produced several full-lengths works gaining critical. Some of the works include a dark contemporary flamenco tale EMERALD and folk and Flamenco fused FOLKMENCO and Spanish dance and Flamenco INERTIA. Their most recent work EMERALD, received an invitation to debut in The MOVES Contemporary Dance Festival 2018, Tasmania and was produced by the Darlinghurst Theatre Company, NSW.
Both Aitor and Marina have their sights on expanding their work across Australia. They hope to conduct a masterclass in all states and present EMERALD nationally.
